The mission of the Associates program of the American Geological Institute
is to serve the wider geoscience community by fostering improved communication
between academia, the private sector, and government. The ultimate
goals of the program are to develop a more effective public presence
for the geosciences, develop a sufficient stream of well-trained geoscientists
to support industry and government, and to allow for the dissemination
of ideas between the various geoscience sectors.
A key event of the AGI Associates Program is the Academic - Corporate
Associates Conference. This conference brings leaders from industry,
academia, and government agencies together for focused presentations
and discussions concerning the major issues facing the geoscience community.
The conference will facilitate achievement of the goals of the AGI Associates
program by initiating a public dialog between the employers and suppliers
of professional geoscientists. By means of focused discussion,
the conference intends to develop a set of defined issues and action
items which will be used as a catalyst for change. Through the
participation of the leaders in attendance at the conference, it is
intended that these action items will not only be a conceptual list,
but an active charge for enhancing the effectiveness of geoscience professionals
in determining the Nation's future.
