Comments: The Center maintains a worldwide listing of identifiable former manufactured gas plants, producer gas plants, coke ovens (beehive, metallurgical, utility, merchant, and coke-byproduct), coal-tar distilleries, and other coal-tar sites. Data gathered and held are technical, historical, site geological, residuals and wastes, environmental regulatory status and applicable remedial engineering technologies.

Additional data banks relate to the Historic Chronology of Coal-Tar Generation, Bibliography of Manufactured Gas and Coal-Tar History and Technology, and data sheets of Coal-Tar Residual Compounds, and Manufactured Gas Facility Components, and Historic Management of Coal-Tar Residuals. A service of reference and guidance is provided on a basic no-charge exchange of data relating to the specific or local coal-tar sites knowledgeable to the person making the inquiry, on a site-by-site basis, including Sanborn or other fire insurance or location plat maps. The entire spectrum of site history, site and waste characterization, conceptual remedial design, regulatory issues and remedial engineering are within the scope of the data base and the interests of the Center. A World Wide Web site is being planned.
