Comments: Midland Energy Library is a 501 (c) (3) organization. All of the historical data in the library have been donated by oil companies and individuals. The library purchases new data for the members to work with. The membership consists of about 200 geologists, geophysicists, paleontologists, engineers, landpersons, and geotechs. The library, organized in 1984-85, covers more than 18,590 square feet on two floors of the Midland American Bank Building. The library also has offsite storage for some of the donations to be merged into the present data system.

Comments: The Bureau of Economic Geology maintains the Midland Core Research Center, a 32,700 square-foot storage facility where core and cuttings can be examined, photographed, analyzed, and logged. Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Among the clients served are the general public, oil and gas industries, students, independent contractors, and universities.

The majority of the holdings are from the Midland Basin.

Comments: The Oil Information Library of Fort Worth was established as a non-profit corporation in 1985 to provide a central repository for invaluable old company/individual records and files that were rapidly being lost through neglect and/or destruction. The Library contains information on North, North Central, and West Texas; particular attention was given to amassing data for the Forth Worth Basin, Bend Arch, Muenster Arch, Hardeman Basin, Eastern and Western Shelves and the Permian Basin of Texas and New Mexico, specifically RRCDs 7B, 7C, 8, 8A and 9 and Southeast New Mexico--the Library's core area.
