PUBLICATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE

FUNCTION OF THE PUBLICATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Publications Advisory Committee assists AGI staff and provides guidance to help the Institute reach its objectives for developing new publications and products for the geoscience community and AGI's other constituencies. The committee provides reports of its activities and recommendations to the Executive Committee.

Responsibilities
 

  • Assist the Publications staff in developing and implementing publications and marketing plans that further AGI's mission, goals, and objectives.

    •  
  • Provide recommendations to help ensure that Geotimes is financially sound, that effective measures are used to increase subscriptions and advertising revenue, and that the magazine effectively promotes its goal of being "The magazine of news and trends in the geosciences."

    •  
  • Provide recommendations for and assist in the development of new products, publications and other spinoffs from existing publications, sources of publishable works, and sources of funding for product development.

    •  
  • Assist AGI staff in developing and implementing a publications development and marketing plan that ensures that AGI's publications program remains fiscally sound.

    •  
  • Provide recommendations to help AGI ensure that its publications and promotional materials are of the highest professional quality.

    •  
  • Maintain liaison with other AGI advisory committees.

    GEOTIMES EDITORIAL BOARD

    FUNCTION OF THE GEOTIMES EDITORIAL BOARD

    The Geotimes Editorial Board works with the AGI staff to help maintain the magazine's editorial focus. Geotimes is written and edited for geoscientists, earth-science educators, industry and government decision-makers, and others who want to know more about geoscience news and trends. The magazine reports on events, research, people, meetings, publications, products and developments in the geosciences, science education, political activities, and technological advances.

    Responsibilities
     

  • Provide ideas for timely scientific and professional topics that Geotimes should cover.

    •  
  • Suggest authors for potential articles.

    •  
  • Help the Geotimes staff expand its network of contacts so as to better report what's happening and who's who in the geosciences.

    •  
  • Help the AGI staff assess how effectively Geotimes fulfills its editorial purpose to report news and trends in the geosciences.
