Through generous support from the corporate donors of the AGI Foundation, AGI held its first annual Curriculum Leadership Institute July 29 to August 4, 2000 in Reston, Virginia. The Institute prepared 38 participants to lead awareness and training workshops and become mentors for AGI's new inquiry-based curriculum programs EarthComm and Investigating Earth Systems. Participants included IES and EarthComm field test teachers, geoscientists from state surveys, and teachers in districts currently adopting the programs. The Leadership Institute helped AGI to build a vast network of educators and geoscientists to support the nationwide adoption and implementation of both curricula. Participating teachers agreed to conduct at least two awareness and/or training engagements over the next year, with support from AGI and/or It's About Time Publishing, and state geological survey representatives committed to coordinating at least two curriculum training programs, under sponsorship of state geological surveys with support from AGI and/or It's About Time Publishing. AGI would like to recognize the significant financial contributions of the Chevron Corporation and the Exxon Education Foundation, whose leadership grants enabled AGI to create training materials for the Institute. |
AGI's professional development programs for teachers are supported by generous contributions from corporate contributors of the American Geological Institute Foundation, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Foundation, and ChevronTexaco.
