2001 AGI Curriculum
Leadership Institute

Summer 2001

The American Geological Institute hosted its annual Curriculum Leadership Institute at the Sheraton-Columbia Hotel and Conference Center in Columbia, Maryland from July 21-27, 2001. Participants learned the content, pedagogy, assessment and strategies of an AGI program through an inquiry-based approach to professional development and also developed the leadership skills needed to conduct teacher workshops, lead professional development, and host awareness presentations on the program in their school, district, and/or state. Goals for particpants at the program included:

Goals for Participants

  1. Understand the pedagogy, content, assessment, and philosophy of the AGI program.
  2. Learn how to use the web sites, materials, kits, and teacher guides for the AGI program.
  3. Learn how to support implementation of AGI curriculum materials.
  4. Learn how to deliver awareness presentations and teacher workshops in your district, state, and/or region.
  5. Understand how the AGI program correlates to state and local standards and assessments.
