The American Geological Institute hosted two regional Curriculum Leadership Institutes for teachers and administrators from schools that have purchased AGI's EarthComm (high school) and Investigating Earth Systems (middle school) curriculum programs. The institutes took place in Chicago, IL. and Catalina Island, CA. AGI invited regional instructors involved with the professional development of science teachers to apply. Participants learned the content, pedagogy, and assessment strategies of the AGI programs through an inquiry-based approach to professional development. In addition, they built leadership skills needed to conduct teacher workshops, lead professional development presentations, and host awareness presentations on the program in their school, district, and/ or state. There was no cost for the training. Meals, lodging, and materials were provided by AGI. Participants who completed the program received a Certificate of Curriculum Leadership Training from the AGI. Goals for Participants
Support for the Institute comes from corporate members of the AGI Foundation, and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Foundation. |
