CTEL is a partnership between the American Geological Institute (AGI), ChevronTexaco Corporation, and Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) designed to enhance teacher understanding of Earth science and prepare high school students to meet California science standards. In this three-year program, AGI staff and 30 LAUSD lead teachers (mentor coaches) will prepare 300 high school teachers to implement AGI's EarthComm curricula. Teams of teachers receive three days of professional development training, a classroom materials kit, 37 student books, teacher guides, mentoring from LAUSD coaches, and web-based support from AGI. In 2003, 101 teachers and seven lead teachers participated in the program and now use the Earth's Dynamic Geosphere module of EarthComm in their classrooms. |
