This investigation will help you to:

  1. Classify examples of rock weathering as mechanical weathering or chemical weathering.
  2. Form a hypothesis to account for observed differences in the rate of chemical weathering of rocks.
  3. Plan an investigation to test your hypothesis about rock weathering.
  4. Judge which investigations are the best way to test a hypothesis.
  5. Explain how Earth systems interact through chemical weathering to produce karst landforms.
