2002 AGI Summer Internship |
YES? Then come be an intern with the American Geological Institute's (AGI) Earth Science Week Program. Founded in 1948, AGI is a nonprofit federation of 39 geoscientific and professional associations that represent more than 100,000 geologists, geophysicists, and other earth scientists. Located in Alexandria, Virginia, AGI is just a few miles south of Washington DC. AGI’s objective in establishing an annual national Earth Science Week is to raise public understanding and awareness of the contributions the Earth sciences make to society and to all of our daily lives. Since our first Earth Science Week, October 11-17, 1998, AGI has witnessed rapid growth in interest from teachers, youth leaders, geoscientists, elected officials and the public in general. Hundreds of organizations across the country have established Earth Science Week programs and hosted events in the past. Maintaining and improving upon this level of success will require a focused planning effort from all those involved.
AGI seeks an outstanding geoscience student with a strong interest in education outreach for the AGI summer education internship program. The intern will interact with AGI Member Societies, state geologists, and representatives from federal agencies and non-profit organizations. Major planning for Earth Science Week 2002 begins in April with preparations intensifying over the summer months. This year, Earth Science Week is scheduled for October 13-19.
