Exploring Earth

Dan Barstow

Exploring Earth infuses innovative visualization technology into a widely-used high school Earth science program. The project demonstrates the power of inquiry-based learning and Earth visualizations to help students learn about Earth system science. It also demonstrates the viability of the approach to teacher professional development, in which the innovation is infused into a main stream textbook program. Finally, it demonstrates the power of a very close collaboration between an innovative developer and a mainstream publisher to create a program that combines new ideas with marketing savvy.
