The Interactive Mathematics Program Research Base

Dan Fendel,
Sherry Fraser

We will present a document that summarizes the research base (in the NCLB sense) for the Interactive Mathematics Program curriculum. The document will include references to general research on learning, which supports IMP’s approach, as well as specific studies of IMP’s effectiveness with students. The latter material includes studies in various areas, including:

  • IMP student performance on standardized tests
  • IMP student performance on tests focused on quantitative reasoning, statistics, and general problem solving
  • Attitudes of IMP students toward mathematics
  • The effect of IMP in decreasing the gender and ethnic “achievement gap”

This project is supported by the National Science Foundation (Grant No. ESI-0352345). Any opinion, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation.
