Meryl Bertenthal is a senior program officer with the Board on Testing
and Assessment in the Center for Education of the National Research
Council and the National Academy of Sciences. Her work with the Center
focuses on issues related to student assessment, education policy, and
education reform. She is currently serving as the study director of an
NSF sponsored project that will provide advice and guidance to states on
the design of high quality science assessment systems that meet NCLB
requirements. She has previously worked on NRC projects related to the
Voluntary National Tests; NAEP; high stakes testing; and an evaluation
of advanced study options for U.S. high school students in science and
mathematics. Prior to joining the NRC staff, she worked in public
education as a teacher, curriculum specialist, assessment director, and
instructional coordinator.
