Government Affairs Program Advisory Committee

The Government Affairs Program Advisory Committee provides insight and advice from AGI's Member Societies to the Government Affairs Program (GAP) staff, ensuring that the program remains responsive to the needs of the Member Societies. The committee is comprised of representatives from each Member Society, serving a liaison function between GAP and the societies. This web page is a resource for the committee and other interested persons.

AGI Government Affairs Program Strategic Plan (9/98)

Plan approved by AGI Government Affairs Program Advisory Committee, Executive Committee, and Member Society Council.

The Government Affairs Program Advisory Committee provides scientific and technical advice to AGI based on Member Society concerns and input. AGI uses this advice to provide information on issues of importance to Member Societies to policymakers, to the geoscience community and to the public.

Priority issues include the following, however, the Government Affairs Program also works on other issues as needed.

  • Support geoscience education and research, including adequate federal investment at all education levels;
  • Improve geoscience investment in public policy issues including data preservation and access, energy and resources, the environment, natural hazards, public lands, and public health;
  • Establish strategic alliances with other scientific disciplines, the private sector, government, international organizations, and other non-governmental organizations.
