LAB 6: DATING OF ROCKS, FOSSILS, & GEOLOGIC EVENTS

DATING TECHNIQUES

Radiocarbon WEB-info has abundant information about carbon dating techniques, plus hotlinks to related sites

Ian's Dating the Age of the Earth page has information on relative and absolute dating techniques

Young Earth Frequently-Asked-Questions is an archive of articles that describe scientific evidence that Earth is billions of years old relative to creationist arguments that Earth is very young. For more information on this site, including how to contribute, see Andy Peters' welcome section of the The Talk.Origins Archive.

FOSSILS

Invertebrate Paleontology & Evolution is an NAGT/Steven Schimmrich site with many links.

Yahoo!-Science:Earth Sciences:Paleontology also has many links to sites on paleontology (the study of fossils).
The Natural History Museum in London has excellent on-line exhibits on Palaeontology (the study of fossils) in its Main Section on Science and in its Feature on The Earth Galleries. Very nice!

Hunterian Museum, University of Glasgow is the oldest public museum in Scotland. It has online exhibits on dinosaurs/fossils, Earth-life, and Hominid (human) evolution.

Royal Tyrrell Museum, Alberta, has a Virtual Tour that includes much information on fossils of all kinds--especially dinosaurs.

UCMP On-line Museum Exhibits deal with fossils, geology, evolution, and phylogeny.

West Virginia Plant Fossils is a great site to help you identify Pennsylvanian or Carboniferous plant fossils of North America.

GEOLOGIC TIME SCALES

Geology & Geologic Time is a Berkeley site that introduces the concept of geologic time and describes the geologic time scale.

Geologic Time Scale provided on a University of Calgary site.
