Community of Sciences Releases Web Version of GeoRef

ALEXANDRIA, VA. -- GeoRef's bibliographic database, established by the American Geological Institute and distributed worldwide, is now available on the World Wide Web through Community of Science, Inc. (COS). The GeoRef database covers the geology of North America from 1785 to the present and the geology of the rest of the world from 1933 to the present, and is considered the most comprehensive geoscience bibliographic database in the world. It contains more than 2 million references to geoscience journal articles, books, maps, conference papers, reports and theses.

"COS is delighted to be working with AGI to publish this important database," says Huntington Williams, III, president and chief executive officer of COS. "GeoRef is a valuable reference tool for a number of related disciplines in the geosciences. We look forward to introducing GeoRef to our customers."

"COS has a powerful Web-based search system," says John Mulvihill, director of the GeoRef Information System, who provided input during the development of the new product. "AGI is pleased with the responsiveness of COS to our suggestions and those from beta users of the COS version of GeoRef on improving access to our database."

A unique new feature of GeoRef on COS is the addition of GeoRef in Process, a database of new and supplementary information to the main GeoRef database. GeoRef on COS offers subject and author searching; field searching with map type, document type, and language options; and easy-to-use information regarding downloading options. Updates to GeoRef are available twice a month, and updates to GeoRef in Process will be published three times each year.

Community of Science, Inc., offers World Wide Web information products to universities, research and development corporations, professional societies, government agencies, and foundations. The company is privately held and based in Baltimore, MD. More information about COS is available from its Web site at http://cos.gdb.org
