This year's meeting, NDR5, promises to
continue the discussion of management and preservation issues,
such as maintaining compliance with national laws, addressing
the needs of energy and minerals industries, and ensuring that
the geologic record of their country is preserved for future
applications. Previous meetings of the NDR group have largely
focused on high-value information exchange - for this meeting,
a more permanent record of the issues and solutions facing the
countries and the operating companies will be made through a
comprehensive edited conference proceeding.
With the release of the U.S. National Research
Council's report
on the need for geoscience data preservation, the issue
of geoscience data repositories has risen within the United
States, making this an ideal opportunity to bring the international
community together to discuss the issues, solutions, and experiences
with key decision makers from around the world.
