About the International Meetings of National Geoscience
Data Repositories

Welcome! To date, NDR meetings have been great opportunities for national and organizational representatives to share issues, concerns, and solutions related to the management and preservation of geoscience data. The results of previous NDR meetings can be viewed at http://www.posc.org/technical/ndr/ndr_main.html
The organizing committee invites colleagues from all over the world to participate.

This year's meeting, NDR5, continued the discussion of management and preservation issues, such as maintaining compliance with national laws, addressing the needs of energy and minerals industries, and ensuring that the geologic record of a country is preserved for future applications. Previous meetings of the NDR group have largely focused on high-value information exchange - for this meeting, a more permanent record of the issues and solutions facing the countries and the operating companies was made through a comprehensive edited conference proceeding.

With the release of the U.S. National Research Council's report on the need for geoscience data preservation, the issue of geoscience data repositories has risen within the United States, which made this an ideal opportunity to bring the international community together to discuss the issues, solutions, and experiences with key decision makers from around the world. Plans for the next NDR meeting (NDR6) are underway, and the meeting is tentatively scheduled to take place in September of 2005, hosted by TNO in the Netherlands. Check back here for additional information about the next meeting as it becomes available. If you are interested in more information about geoscience data or the NDR meetings, and you do not find it here, please feel free to e-mail us with questions.
