There is a charge for data delivery by non-University of California (UC) users, or for UC users working on non-UC projects, for the use of remote-sensing images and digital data. The Map and Imagery Library (MIL) houses 1.3 million Landsat satellite images, 3.8 million aerial photographs, 480,000 maps, 2,000 digital items (mainly CD-ROMs), and 6,000 books. Users may either come to the collection, or users may hire staff to do air-photo searches. All digital work must be done by staff; mainly limited to copying files and scanning. MIL acquires such items as the National Geophysical Data Center's Gravity CD and various earthquake-information CDs. MIL specializes in aerial photographs of California, especially of southern California. MIL holds archival hardcopy Landsat satellite images from 1972 to approximately 1975. In maps, MIL specializes in medium-scale topographic sheets for foreign countries (ca. 1:250,000). |
