Current practice is to assist investigators on either an informal no-cost basis or on a contract basis if significant assistance is required. Cuttings and cores are now housed in an on-campus warehouse. GeoData is currently negotiating with university administrators to obtain a larger room to serve as a dedicated data depository, and with private sources to fund renovation and staffing. The core collection includes a few hundred feet of Tuscaloosa and Smackover cores, plus 24,000 feet of deep-sea cores and a 6,000-foot core from Massachusetts.
