AGI EARTH SCIENCE OUTREACH
ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The
Earth Science Outreach Advisory Committee assists AGI staff and provides
guidance to help the Institute reach its objectives for increasing public
awareness and understanding of the vital role the geosciences play in
meeting society's needs, e.g., through basic and applied research that
addresses development and use of Earth resources, mitigation of natural
disasters, and stewardship of the environment. The committee provides
reports of its activities and recommendations to the Executive Committee.

Responsibilities

- Assist the Outreach and Communications staff in developing
and implementing plans for an effective outreach and communications
program that furthers AGI's mission, goals, and objectives on
behalf of the member societies and the geoscience community;
- Identify opportunities among the member societies and within
the geoscience community to increase the impact of current outreach
activities and also develop new outreach projects through collaboration;
- Provide guidance on further development of current outreach
projects: Earth Science
Week, the Earth
Science World web site, Discoveries and Breakthroughs Inside
Science, and the
- Environmental Awareness Series;
Develop a strategic plan for sustaining support for an annual
Earth Science Week;
- Provide recommendations for and assist in the development
of new outreach materials and projects;
- Help develop effective means of maintaining communication
with AGI member societies and of informing them regularly of
AGI activities;
- Assist in developing the means to communicate with other science
organizations, with the general public, and with public policymakers
in matters involving the earth sciences;
Maintain liaison with other AGI advisory committees.
