Charles E. Brown

Dr. Brown has been working as a research hydrologist and geologist with the USGS for 19 years, dating back to 1969. He has published 35 research and scientific papers on geophysics, statistics, geology, and hydrology and among them a book entitl
ed Appled Multivariate Statistics in Geohydrology and Related Sciences (1997). He has always been involved in the education process for geoscientists and hydrologists.
He has served as Research Project Chief for regional ground-water studies in the Water Resources Division of the USGS. He has worked with Chevron USA, Inc., as an exploration geologist in the Rocky Mountain Overthrust Belt. He has taught both undergrad
uate and graduate geology, environmental-science, and hydrology courses at Virginia State University and George Mason University, where he was a Visiting Commonwealth Professor in the Geological Sciences Department. He has also taught geoscience and envir
onmental workshops at Howard University.
Dr. has completed special assignments with the U.S. Department of Energy and has traveled and worked on assignments in South Africa, Senegal, South America, and India. He was international fossil-energy specialist and senior geologist for energy explor
ation and development issues and supported the energy-program initiatives of U.S. cabinet members and senior government officials who were designated to lead various international trade missions abroad. Dr. Brown is also Founder and Director of the newly
established International Geohydroscience and Energy Research (IGER) Institute, a nonprofit entity, created with a mission to promote and enhance the education of geoscientists throughout the world.
Dr. Brown has a B.S. degree in geology from Virginia State University, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in geology with a specialty in hydrogeology from Pennsylvania State University. He is currently a member of the Geological Society of America and the Nati
onal Association for Black Geologists and Geophysicists, and Association of Geoscientists for International Development. He continues to see a bright future for the well-trained professional in geology and related professions and actively supports that vi
sion.
