Jessica Donovan

Ms. Donovan received a B.A. in geology from Rutgers University and an M.A. in geology from Harvard University. She entered college expecting to major in sociology. After an introductory course in geology taken to fulfill a science requirement, s
he got hooked at a summer symposium on the paleontology and modern ecology of the Front Range, offered by Colorado College. In 1977, she joined Dames & Moore, a geotechnical and applied earth-sciences consulting firm, based first in Honolulu and later
in San Francisco. She joined ENVIRON in 1989, becoming a Principal in 1993. Her projects have ranged from nuclear power-plant foundation investigations, characterization of aquifer systems around the San Francisco Bay margins, contamination assessments a
t refineries, chemical plants and other industrial facilities, to oversight of ground-water remediation at a Silicon Valley Superfund site. She has been active in a number of professional societies, serving as president of the Association for Women Geosci
entists and is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Geological Society of America, the Ground Water Resources Association and, more recently, the ISO 14000 West Coast Working Group.
