Dr. Christensen is currently Chief Geologist for Newmont Mining Corporation. Dr. Christensen received a B.A. in geology from the University of Minnesota, Duluth and a Ph.D. in geology from Stanford University.
Dr. Christensen spent three years as Assistant Professor of Geology at the University of North Dakota, teaching courses in mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry, and economic geology. He moved to a position as Research Geochemist with the Earth Science Laboratory/University of Utah Research Institute as a member of a multidisciplinary team developing geothermal- exploration technology.
Since joining Newmont Exploration Limited in 1981, he has held a number of positions both in minerals exploration and at company mines in a variety of locations. While Vice President of Exploration for Newmont Gold Company in northeastern Nevada, he was responsible for all geology activities at five separate mines with a staff of 90 geological professionals. Currently, as Chief Geologist, Dr. Christensen is responsible for geological aspects of Newmont Mining projects throughout the world.
Dr. Christensen has published more than 30 professional papers in a variety of publications. He is a member of the Geological Society of America, Society of Economic Geologists, American Institute of Professional Geologists, Association of Exploration Geochemists, Geological Society of Nevada, and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration. He lives in Aurora, Colorado, with his wife and two daughters. He is a long-distance mountain runner and private pilot.
